Exchange Rate Sources

Menu > Tax Data > Currencies > Exchange Rate Sources

Use this page to define one or more rate sources--locations containing sets of exchange rates for use in your calculations. You must define at least one exchange rate source to enable currency conversions in Determination.

Before using this page for the first time, please review Currencies.

Exchange Rate Source List Tasks

The Exchange Rate Source List is populated by all exchange rate sources associated with your company.

If you select an exchange rate source from the list, the Selected Exchange Rate Source section is populated with data related to the selected item.

For a complete description of the contents of the fields in the list, see the table at the end of this topic.

Selected Exchange Rate Source Tasks

You can use this section to either add an exchange rate source, modify data, or delete an exchange rate source.

Add a new exchange rate source

1. If this is the first exchange rate source configured, skip this step. If it is not, select any exchange rate source, then select Add from the Actions menu.
2. Enter data using the field reference below.
3. Click Submit to save your changes.

Modify an exchange rate source

1. Select the exchange rate source from the Exchange Rate Sources List.
2. Modify data using the field reference below.

Delete an exchange rate source

1. Select the exchange rate source from the Exchange Rate Sources List.
2. Select Delete from the Actions menu.
3. Click OK to confirm the deletion.

Export an exchange rate source

You can export the selected exchange rate source, or all exchange rate sources owned by this company.

1. Select Properties from the Actions menu.
2. Click one of the following.
   • This Exchange Rate Source to export only the selected item.
   • This Exchange Rate Source and All Siblings to export all exchange rate sources owned by this company.
   • In either case, all Exchange Rates maintained by the selected exchange rate source(s) are also exported.
3. Click Save.
4. Browse to or enter a filename to save to and click Save.

Once you save the file, you can re-import it. See the Importing Data page.

Exchange Rate Sources Field Reference
Field	Req?	Description
Source Name	Y	The name of the exchange rate source.
Source Type	Y	Select one of the following: Database to access exchange rates you loaded into Determination either through Determination or through a CSV upload. Java Class to access exchange rates from an external source (for example, another database or exchange rate provider). Source Location	Y	One of the following: If Source Type is Database, then Source Location is automatically filled with the table name TB_EXCHANGE_RATES. If Source Type is Java Class, then Source Location is the fully qualified class name used as the rate provider (for example, my.package.name.MyRateFinder). Update Frequency	Y	Indicates how often rates must be updated using this source: Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. This frequency is used on the Exchange Rates page to automatically compute end dates for each exchange rate contained in the associated source. You can override this computed end date if desired.
Intermediate Currency	Opt.	If specified, all currency conversions proceed through this currency. For example, if USD is specified, a conversion from CAD to EUR proceeds in two steps: CAD to USD, then USD to EUR. Setting an intermediate currency greatly reduces the number of individual exchange rates which need to be maintained to enable conversions between multiple currencies.
Description	Opt.	A description of this exchange rate source. This field does not appear in the Exchange Rates List.
