Zone Authorities

A tax zone, a geographical area in which tax can be due, can have one or more tax authorities associated with it. Authorities are governments or other entities that can collect tax in a particular zone. There can be multiple tax authorities in a single zone. For example, California (see the image below). In most cases, however, there will be one tax authority per zone level in a zone. For example, in Canada, there is one tax authority associated with the province of Ontario while a different tax authority is associated with the federal government of Canada.

  • Tax Data Providers can attach or detach zone authorities.
  • Custom Data Providers, and users with the Custom Authority Manager role, can do the same for the Custom Authorities they manage.

Throughout Determination, custom authorities are indicated with blue, underlined, italic text.

  • For all other users and companies, this page can only be viewed.
